In the 1960s, the sea was still infinitely large. This simple instructional film about how to behave at sea from 1964 shows just that. It’s in Swedish, but it shows how to make your garbage sink to the sea floor instead of reaching the shore.
We know better today. But if we take a leap 56 years into the future, what shocking instructional movies will people share about 2020? The verdict will probably not be merciful. Because we are still pressing holes in beer cans to make them sink easier. Figuratively. We get better, we sign Paris agreements, bang our fists in tables and keep our feet dry as best we can, but there will most likely be chocking films about our behavior to share in 56 years.
Understanding the requirements
This week, we’ve helped a company understand the sustainability requirements that their largest customer sent them. The list encompasses everything from gender equality and anti-corruption to carbon dioxide emissions and environmental goals. We have also met the large customer and see how systematically they work with their suppliers. It is promising indeed, and the same is happening in many companies right now. When owners and legal requirements push big companies in front of them, things start to happen. It is simply not possible to escape.
The planetary boundaries
We are living in exciting times where we are exceeding the planetary boundaries, one by one. What does it take to make us understand that we cannot continue exceeding them? Knowing that we are destroying the entire globe is not enough as an argument. Something else is required to make us take action. As long as money and regulations are guiding us in a sustainable direction, there is hope, but what happens when the world starts to collect the remains after the big virus attack? Will the planet be included as a stakeholder then?
Or is that when the shocking instructional films from 2020 will be created?
World Environmental Day
It is the World Environment Day today. Since it was inaugurated in 1974, the aim has been to raise awareness of global environmental problems and inspire people, companies, organizations and countries to act.
Let’s celebrate!
