Sustainability – to last longer

Polarbröd’s factory in Älvsbyn burned down last Sunday. We mourn, the people of Älvsby mourn, the employees mourn, the customers mourn. It’s not just that Polarbröd has always been in our lives; there is something proud, stable and very, very Swedish that has turned into ash.

We have followed Polarbröd for a long time because they are so good at sustainability. They have their own wind turbines, with which they cover large parts of the Group’s and bakeries’ electricity needs, they have a 50-50 gender balance among their employees, they invest for long-term growth and provide jobs in the local community, they award prizes to people who come up with wise solutions for the future, they give high school students summer jobs as inventors, they use the planetary boundaries as part of their own operational boundaries… the list is long and covers all sustainability aspects: social, environmental and financial.

They’ve really thought it all through and integrated sustainability into everything they do. Read their sustainability report (in Swedish only) and get inspired! Now, we sincerely hope that they will succeed in rebuilding their factory and continue to bake bread for five to ten more generations. After all, that’s why we all work with sustainability – to last longer.

Green Strategy Day

Greengoat had a strategy meeting in Hälsingland on Friday for the same reason. Reality changes all the time and we need to ensure that we are relevant tomorrow as well. Strategy, targets, future partners and a walk to the village were some items on the agenda. So, we apologize for being unavailable for a day, but wait until Monday; we have now leveled up to Greengoat 2.0.
